Police Trainee
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Recruitment Division is committed to recruiting, assessing, and hiring the best suited and qualified applicants to meet the needs of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg community and the CMPD.
If you are at least 20 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED, you may already meet the minimum requirements to be a police officer. No experience is necessary, but our standards are high. Read our qualifications.
Lateral Entry
CMPD is currently processing in-state and out-of-state certified Police Officers for Lateral Entry. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is looking for outstanding certified, sworn law enforcement officers to add to our ranks. We are interested in officers who exhibit integrity, professionalism and dedication to bring their skills and experience to service for our citizens.
Intermediate Entry
CMPD has created a new employment pathway for those who have already completed a North Carolina (NC) Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Program within the past 12 months. Whether you completed this training in school or have been a sworn officer for less than two years, intermediate entry can qualify you for an abbreviated 10-week academy, expediting your journey to joining our ranks. We seek officers with integrity, professionalism and dedication to serve.
